Southern Utah: Gem of the West

Southern Utah is arguably the most beautiful region in the western United States, home to such national treasures as Zion's National Park, Capitol Reef, Lake Powell, Arches National Park, and Bryce Canyon, there is so much beauty to experience!

One of the benefits of living in a state like Utah is that there are five national parks located within the state alone. For appreciators of beauty, majesty, and diversity, Utah has it all! Southern Utah, in particular, is an incredibly unique landscape with a variety of rock formations, hiking trails, rivers, lakes, and alien-looking regions.

There is also a fascinating and unique history to this part of the state, going back millions of years. Geologically speaking, the region is rare, with fabulous exposure to layers of sediment that track the geological history of the area. Human-wise, many different native peoples occupied this area throughout human history, most recently with the Mormon pioneers who settled the area in the 1800's and the unique challenges they had with the landscape and survival.

The towns and cities of southern Utah have their own rustic charm, the locals having a vibrant and unique relationship to the landscape. Some towns have become quite popular tourist destinations, such as Moab -- a town situated at the crossroads between Arches National Monument, Canyonlands, Deadhorse Point, and the Colorado river. This town attracts thousands of tourists each year and has born with it a vibrant arts culture, complete with art galleries, live-music, festivals, wineries, restaurants, and more.

St. George, Utah has become a destination for performing arts, including an outdoor amphitheater which draws crowds during summer months. It is also home to several marathons each year, golf courses, a dinosaur discovery museum, and more!

So whatever kind of adventure you are looking for, Southern Utah certainly will have it, whether it be theater, dance, and the arts or music festivals, to recreational hobbies like kayaking, white water rafting, or hiking!
